政策声明

The Manhattan School of Music (the “School”) is committed to providing all students 和 employees with the opportunity to pursue 和 attain their individual goals as it relates to the School’s admissions, 就业, 以及教育项目或活动. This commitment includes the School’s students 和 employees who are pregnant, 育儿, 或者正在经历与怀孕有关的情况. The School prohibits differential treatment or discrimination against students 和 employees based on the student or employee’s current, 潜在的, 或者是过去的父母, 家庭, 婚姻状况, 或怀孕或相关情况.

  • Pregnancy, 分娩, 终止妊娠, or 泌乳;
  • Medical conditions related to pregnancy, 分娩, 终止妊娠, or 泌乳; or

“Parental Status” means a person who is a biological parent; adoptive parent; stepparent; foster parent; legal custodian or guardian; in loco parentis with respect to a person; or a person who is actively seeking custody, 监护, 探视, 或者收养一个人.

一个学生, 或成为, pregnant or has a related condition is strongly encouraged to notify the Title IX Coordinator as soon as possible. 通过这样做, the student 和 the Title IX Coordinator can collaborate 和 develop an appropriate plan for the continuation of the student’s education in light of the unique nature of the School’s 程序s 和 requirements, as well as particular challenges the student may face while pregnant or while experiencing a pregnancy related condition.

If a School employee is informed of a student’s pregnancy or related condition by a student or a person who has a legal right to act on behalf of the student, the employee must provide the student or the student’s representative with the Title IX Coordinator’s contact information for further assistance, unless the employee reasonably believes the Title IX Coordinator has already been notified.

The employee will also inform the student or the student’s representative that the Title IX Coordinator can coordinate 具体行动 to prevent sex discrimination 和 ensure the student’s equal access to the School’s education 程序s or activities. 然而, the choice to declare a student’s pregnancy is voluntary, 和 students 和 employees are not required to disclose this information to the School.

After being notified by a student or the student’s representative of the student’s pregnancy or related condition, 第九条协调员将做以下工作:

  • Inform the student about the School’s prohibition on sex discrimination, 包括性别骚扰.
  • Provide the student with the option of reasonable modifications due to the student’s pregnancy or related conditions.
  • Allow the student voluntary access to any separate 和 comparable portion of the School’s education 程序s or activities.
  • Allow the student a voluntary leave of absence for medical reasons 和 reinstatement for the student upon return from leave.
  • 为学生提供一个私人的, clean space for 泌乳 that is a space other than a bathroom 和 is shielded from view 和 free from intrusion from others.

The School will not require students to submit supporting documentation for the above items, unless the documentation is necessary 和 reasonable for the School to determine the reasonable modifications to make, 或者是否需要额外的, 具体行动. Situations where supporting documentation is not necessary may include, 但不限于, when the student’s need for a specific action is obvious, such as when a student who is pregnant needs a bigger uniform; when the student has previously provided the School with sufficient supporting documentation; when the reasonable modification at issue is allowing a student to carry or keep water nearby 和 喝, 使用更大的桌子, 坐或站, 或者休息一下吃点东西, 喝, or use the restroom; when the student has 泌乳 needs; or when the requested action is available to other students for reasons other than pregnancy or related conditions 和 such students are not required to submit supporting documentation.

另外, the School will not require a student who is pregnant or has a related condition to provide certification from a healthcare provider or any other person that the student is physically able to participate in the School’s class, 程序, 或课外活动,除非:

  • The certified level of physical ability or health is necessary for the student’s participation in the class, 程序, 或者课外活动;
  • The School requires such certification of all students participating in the class, 程序, 或者课外活动; 和
  • The information obtained is not used as a basis for discrimination.
